Online Doctor in California FAQs

Can I see an online doctor in California?

The state of California allows online doctor visits as long as you are seen by a licensed physician. However, it is up to the individual doctor’s offices to offer virtual appointments. So you would have to check with your primary care physician (PCP) or speciality doctor to see if they offer online visits. If you need medical care, K Health offers 24/7 online urgent care, primary care, and mental health treatment with board-certified doctors in California.

Can I get a prescription online in California?

In California, you can’t receive a prescription without an initial doctor’s examination—but you can meet an online doctor to receive a prescription virtually. Some health care providers allow online prescription refills through their website or app, but you will need an initial prescription from a doctor to order a refill. K Health can prescribe medication and can refill prescriptions online for patients with and without health insurance.

What conditions can online doctors treat in California?

Online doctors can treat many of the conditions you would see a primary care physician (PCP) for, including minor illnesses, skin conditions, pain management, and mental health conditions. Some urgent care facilities even offer online visits. However, not every condition can be treated with an online visit, and your doctor may recommend an in-person visit to properly diagnose or treat your condition or to perform certain tests.

How much is an online doctor visit in California?

The cost of an online doctor visit in California will vary depending on your location, the condition you’re being treated for, and whether or not you have health insurance. (Patients with health insurance typically pay less per visit.) However, certain health care providers, like K Health, offer low-cost online doctor visits in California, regardless of your insurance status. At K Health, a single online doctor visit costs $35, or you can pay $29 a month for unlimited online visits.

Can I see an online doctor without insurance?

Yes, you can see an online doctor without insurance. However, some online visits will be cheaper than others. For example, traditional doctor’s offices typically cost more for patients without insurance, even for telehealth visits. But other health care providers, like K Health, don’t accept insurance—so the cost is the same for every patient, regardless of insurance status. With K Health, a single online doctor visit costs $35, or you can pay $29 a month for unlimited online visits.

Can I get antibiotics online?

Like any medication, you need a prescription from a licensed doctor to get antibiotics. But you can receive a prescription from an online doctor for antibiotics. Depending on your insurance company or health care provider, you may also be able to order refills online through their website or app.
